THE MOSCOW CAT MUSEUM AND THE INTERGALLERY PRESENTS
AN EXCLUSIVE EXHIBITION PROGRAMME "WOMEN AND CATS"

Life is full of secrets and unsolved mysteries, and it is common knowledge that Cat is the most mysterious and unpredictable creature in the world. Cat's character is a most intriguing and fascinating phenomenon for study and investigation. On the one hand there is no competing with the Cat in gracefulness, physical perfection and enigma that surrounds them.
On the other hand women could stand the comparison with this remarkable and charming animal. In a famous Kipling's fairytale the Cat abandons its independence to come to live with a Woman of all the earthly creatures.
The Cat came to stay and to become woman's friend and companion at all times. We all know how much a Woman and a Cat have in common: gracefulness and elegance, ingenuity and intelligence, adroitness and good reaction - the list could be endless, and we still should mention their beauty, inherent independence and very often aloofness.
In Art as well these two themes "A Woman" and "A Cat" very often go together. This alliance is viewed by artists in many different ways and everyone gives his own interpretation of the bond that undoubtedly exists between these creatures, placing their own accents on this or that trait of character these two have in common. For Leonardo da Vinchi a Cat is a sacred animal in "Madonna with a Cat". A.Renoir puts all the emphasis on cats and women's feminity and romantic sides of their natures. For a French artist Eroir a Cat is a symbol of sensuality and sin. For many others they are goddesses of Dark Forces and witchcraft.
New generations of artists are fascinated and drawn to these unusual and inexhaustible themes introducing new materials and innovative forms. For its several programmes, "Cat's Eye", "Cat Museum's exhibition", our INTERGALLERY has collected the works which in our opinion are stamped with striking individuality and in which artists try to reveal complicated relationship that exists between a Woman a Cat.
Women's hearts belong to the Cat. For women the Cat is serving as an unattainable ideal of beauty and grace. It is also an incarnation of independence and freedom - unlimited freedom - which makes it twice as attractive for any woman because of it's unlimited character.
The presence of the Cat is the best remedy for loneliness: the remedy that stood the test of time. I recommend it to any woman who is independent enough to know that there are no indisputable truths and who at the same time romantic enough to understand pleasures of life which go beyond the boundaries of everyday life.
